The Faculty of Engineering, University of Peradeniya is the first engineering faculty in Sri Lanka. It was founded in 1950 and shifted to the present location at Peradeniya in 1964. The Faculty of Engineering is one of the eight Faculties of the University of Peradeniya, the most prestigious university in Sri Lanka located in an idyllic setting on the banks of the Mahaweli River and at the foothills of the Hantana mountain range.
Civil Engineering Society (CES) of the University of Peradeniya successfully concluded its annual seminar on the theme of “Challenges in Structural Engineering” on 27th July 2021 with nearly 300 researchers, students, and academic staff members of the Sri Lankan universities.
The President's Awards for Scientific Research 2018 was held on 6th April 2021 as a virtual event. Dr. S.K. Navaratnarajah, Dr. H. A. D. Samith Buddika, and Dr. K. K. Wijesundaraof from the Department of Civil Engineering received the award in the virtual ceremony.(More...)

The ongoing COVID 19 pandemic is causing an exponential growth in the number of globally infected patients with Sri Lanka being no exception. About 80% of the COVID - 19 patients are not in critical state. Monitoring each patient closely and carefully and providing care to the infected patients is essential for the proper management of the disease. The Coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic is the defining global health crisis of our time. Since its emergence late last year, the virus has now spread around the world including Sri Lanka.In hospitals, doctors, nurses and other healthcare workers are fighting a prolonged battle against this deadly and highly contagious illness. When COVID-19 patients are isolated medical workers have to go around the isolation wards to check vital signs of patients from time to time. They have to put on protective gear for this task. Here they are putting themselves at a huge risk since the virus can be infected even from a very small mistake.(More...)
In a period where the universities all over the country are closed due to the COVID-19 outbreak, the Faculty of Engineering, University of Peradeniya has taken measures to continue their academic program with the help of online technologies. The Faculty, starting from the 30th March 2020, has initiated providing online lectures to all undergraduates. The online teaching activities are conducted through FEeLS (a Learning Management System named Faculty of Engineering e-Learning System) and all the lecture notes, slides, videos and other relevant materials are also uploaded to the system. Some laboratory classes that can be performed online are also conducted. All the online synchronous sessions are recorded and added to the FEeLS course pages so that the students will have access to them later. A number of final year research projects and the other projects are carried out with minimum disturbance. The supervisors schedule Zoom meetings with their students to give feedback and continuously work to improve their projects. (More...)
